After weeks of radio silence from MBC, the promotion train for the upcoming sageuk blockbuster Empress Ki began chugging in earnest last week with a steady stream of official stills featuring the three leads: Ha Ji Won (The King 2 Hearts, Secret Garden) as the titular Empress Ki, Joo Jin Mo (Friend 2) in his Korean TV drama comeback (his last drama was KBS Dream in 2009) as King Chunghye of Goryeo and Ji Chang Wook (Five Fingers) as Emperor Huizong of Yuan. Now the official posters depicting Ha Ji Won as Empress Ki have finally been released in time for the premiere next week – and boy, are they gorgeous.
The drama tells the tale of a Goryeo-born woman who became consort to Emperor Huizong of China’s Yuan dynasty, eventually became his second empress and one who held considerable sway over the politics in her country of birth. Those who have watched Faith, the time-travel drama starring Lee Min Ho and Kim Hee Sun which aired on SBS last year, will remember her mentioned in passing as the powerful sister of the series’ main antagonist, Ki Chul.
Empress Ki will air its premiere episode next week on October 28th.
