We finally get our first look at the cast of You Came from the Stars (formerly known as “Man from Another Star” or “Man from the Stars”), which actually held its first script reading on October 14th at the SBS Tanhyeon Production Center. Kim Soo Hyun, Jeon Ji Hyun, Park Hae Jin, Yoo In Na and a number of familiar supporting actors (Kim Chang Wan, Na Young Hee, Lee Il Hwa, Yoo In Young, Ahn Jae Hyun, Jo Hee Bong) were in attendance. I don’t see Yunho of DBSK anywhere, so perhaps that casting fell through after all?
The drama promises a crazy mix of elements – it’s a time-travel fusion historical romance comedy drama. With an alien (or perhaps more than one). Kim Soo Hyun stars as the 400-year-old alien who crashed onto Earth in 1609 in a flying object – a “haunting event” that ends up being recorded in the Annals of the Joseon dynasty. PFFT. He remains on Earth for whatever reason and meets the sharp-tongued “Hallyu goddess” Cheon Song Yi (Jeon Ji Hyun). So basically Jeon Ji Hyun is playing herself?
The drama is already highly anticipated for obvious reasons: It’ll be Jeon Ji Hyun’s comeback to the small screen since her last drama on SBS in 1999 (Happy Together) and will also reunite her with her co-star from the 2012 box office hit, The Thieves. Kim Soo Hyun also had a huge 2012 with blockbuster drama The Moon That Embraces the Sun and The Thieves under his belt, which he then followed up with another hit film earlier this year, Secretly, Greatly. We can never have too much of Kim Soo Hyun, though, so this is the perfect answer to fans for whom a movie appearance a year is not enough. It’s also nice to see Park Hae Jin, whom I haven’t seen in anything since… forever.
The drama is directed by Jang Tae Yoo and scripted by Park Ji Eun and will follow Heirs on SBS in December.
