Mnet’s 4-episode drama Mimiis set to premiere tonight, starring TVXQ’s Changmin (Paradise Ranch) as a 28-year-old webtoon artist who goes on a search for his lost first love. Promotions for the drama really kicked into high gear last week when S.M. Entertainment (most know them as the masterminds behind TVXQ as well as other popular groups such as EXO, SHINee, Girl’s Generation and so forth) released the second album from their special project group S.M. THE BALLAD, titled “Breath,” with all the official MVs featuring scenes from Mimi.
The story centers around Changmin’s character Min Woo, who comes across a memo one day and uses it as the basis for his webtoon series. As he works on the project, however, he begins to be plagued by mysterious headaches and flashes of memory that he doesn’t recognize. This prompts him to track down his first love (Moon Ga Young), whom he lost 10 years ago.
That sets the scene for the bittersweet first love (featuring Min Woo in his high school years) which we see depicted in the music videos for “Breath,” the title track of S.M. THE BALLAD’s album. This title track was released in three different languages: Korean, Chinese and Japanese, with Jonghyun of SHINee and Taeyeon of Girl’s Generation performing the duet in Korean, Chen of EXO and Zhang Li Yin singing the Chinese version and Changmin himself paired with Krystal from f(x) for the Japanese version.
Below is the Chinese version (my personal favourite), sung beautifully by Chen of EXO and Zhang Li Yin:
The Chinese and Korean versions have also been performed on various music shows and the S.M. THE BALLAD Joint Recital held last week on February 12th. Chen and Zhang Li Yin’s performance can be streamed here and Jonghyun and Taeyeon’s version here.
Mimi will air an episode every Friday night at 11pm KST on Mnet, beginning from February 21st.
