Great news for fans of OCN’s crime-medical drama God’s Quiz – after a long period of radio silence from OCN regarding the status of a continuation following the massive cliffhanger ending of Season 3 (no spoilers here, but suffice to say it was enough to prompt table-flipping), the production has finally confirmed a May 18th premiere for Season 4.
Even better news: leads Ryu Duk Hwan (Faith, God’s Quiz) and Yoon Joo Hee (Warm Words) will be returning for the new season, while Donghae of Super Junior (Panda and Hedgehog) is being courted as a new addition to the cast. It’s always a big worry whether the original cast can be convinced to return and the changing of cast members usually ruins the dynamic within these multi-season shows, so viewers can breathe a sigh of relief.
For those who are not familiar with the plot, genius medical examiner Han Jin Woo (Ryu Duk Hwan) leads a medical forensic team that solves mysterious criminal cases involving rare diseases, though his genius comes with a price in the form of searing headaches (and these become one of the key overarching mysteries in the series). Detective Kang Kyung Hee (Yoon Joo Hee) works with the team on the investigative aspects and develops a sweet romance with Jin Woo, though it remains light and never takes the focus away from the criminal cases. Since Kyung Hee was absent in Season 3, I’m looking forward to her return and seeing what it means for their relationship moving forward. Jin Woo needs you, Kyung Hee!
So far there’s no information on what role Donghae has been offered, but his agency SM Entertainment is said to be “considering [it] positively.” The usual.
Writing is Park Jae Bum, who also penned the previous seasons of God’s Quiz, but there’ll be a new PD at the helm: Lee Min Woo, whose credits include The Marriage Plot and Indomitable Daughters-in-law. That’s not the greatest endorsement, but we’ll have to wait and see whether the upcoming season 4 can bring something fresh to the series without becoming convoluted. God’s Quiz Season 4 is set to premiere on May 18th following Cheo Yong, which airs Saturday 11PM on OCN.
