Bride of the Century Racks up the Searches

TV Chosun’s Bride of the Century starring FT Islands lead singer Lee Hong Ki and actress Yang Jin Sung has become the most searched Korean drama on Chinese web portal QQ dot com, rising up the ranks in just 24 days. QQ charts Korean dramas based on the number of views and in the past 24 days Bride of the Century has managed to surpass MBC’s sageuk drama Empress Ki starring Ha Ji Won which has 610,000 hits and SBS’s star studded drama The Heirs, starring the likes of Lee Min Ho, Park Shin Hye, Kim Woo Bin, CN Blue’s Kang Min Hyuk, F(x)’s Krystal Jung and Choi Jin Hyuk which has 420,000 hits.

Bride of the Century has racked up more than 2 million views as of the 24th of March, which for one of the smaller channels on the Korean air is no small feat. The drama is also racking up the searches on Chinese search engines and China’s Weibo, as well as Korean search engines, thanks to enthusiastic fans.

The popularity of the drama in China may also have to do with lead actors’ Lee Hong Ki’s recent, highly successful concert in Shanghai with his band FT Island. I don’t know what it is about this drama that gets people so hooked and invested but I know for sure that the popularity of the drama will continue to steadily rise. Whatever the reason for its steady rise, Bride of the Century is doing quiet well, even though the writer is throwing everything in to it except for amnesia or a life altering disease, what makes people like me keep coming back for more is that for some unexplainable reason the drama is like crack, and the interactions between Kang Joo and Doo Rim are so squee worthy yet so angsty, that you just have to keep watching for those OTP scenes.
