The three major Korean TV channels (SBS, KBS and MBC) are set to air brand new dramas in the coming week after the delay due to the Sewol Ferry tragedy which put a halt to all dramas and variety shows. The three dramas will be airing during the same time slot, however KBS2’s, Big Man starring Kang Ji Hwan, Choi Daniel and Lee Da Hee will air its first episode tonight (28th of April) whilst SBS’s, Doctor Stranger starring Lee Jong Suk and MBC’s, Triangle with Lee Beom Soo, JYJ’s Jaejoong and ZE:A’s Siwan will go on air for the first time next Monday the 5th of May.
Big Man is the story of orphan Kim Ji Hyuk played by Kang Ji Hwan who becomes entangled in a plan to save Kang Dong Seok played by Choi Daniel, a rich chaebol heir who needs a heart transplant. Ji Hyuk is lied to, that he is also a chaebol heir, and upon discovering this plan embarks on a mission of revenge to even out the inequalities in social class. I Hear Your Voice’s, Lee Da Hee also co-stars as Ji Hyuk and Dong Seok’s love interest, So Mi Ra, although she is at first enamoured with Dong Seok who loves her despite their social differences (she’s the manager of the staff in his family’s household) eventually falls for Ji Hyuk and secretly aids him on his quest.
Big Man replaces The Full Sun and airs on KBS2 on Monday – Tuesdays at 22:00 KST.
Triangle revolves around the story of three brothers who became separated after a car accident killed their parents when they were children, the brothers meet again twenty years later but find themselves at odds with each other and unaware of who the other person is. The eldest brother Jang Dong Soo played by Lee Beom Soo has followed in their fathers footsteps to become a detective. The middle brother Jang Dong Chul played by JYJ’s Jaejoong, meanwhile grew up on the streets, steadily climbing the crime ladder, he is now the leader of a mafia gang and goes by the name Heo Young Dal. The youngest brother Jang Dong Woo played by ZE:A’s Siwan, now goes by the name of Yoon Yang Ha, Dong Woo was adopted by a chaebol family and since he was very young when the accident happened has no recollection of his biological family and thus is a cynical and cold hearted chaebol heir.
After the crazy fest that was Empress Ki, lets hope that Triangle can continue its predecessors position of Number 1 in ratings. Triangle replaces Empress Ki and airs on MBC on Monday – Tuesdays at 22:00 KST, the first episode airs on the 5th of May.
Lee Da Hee’s I Hear Your Voice co-star Lee Jong Suk leads SBS’s Doctor Stranger which replaces God’s Gift – 14 Days which has just ended, funnily enough Lee Jong Suk and God’s Gift lead Lee Bo Young were the main leads in I Hear Your Voice, so with Da Hee and Jong Suk’s new dramas, and Bo Young’s drama finishing it seems like a mini reunion of sorts, passing the torch so to speak. In Doctor Stranger (I honestly thought this was a type of Frankenstein/Mary Shelley type drama when I first saw the name) Lee Jong Suk stars as Park Hoon, who was kidnapped to North Korea with his father when he was a child. Park Hoon grows up to be a genius chest surgeon, and flees back to South Korea, where he becomes an esteemed surgeon at Dongwoo University Hospital which is known as the top hospital in South Korea. Jin Se Yeon stars as Park Hoon’s love interest Song Jae Hee and You Who Came From the Stars actor Park Hae Jin co-stars as Han Jae Joon, a graduate doctor from Harvard.
Doctor Stranger replaces God’s Gift – 14 Days and airs on SBS on Monday – Tuesdays at 21:55 KST, the first episode airs on the 5th of May.
A lot of netizens have expressed excitement over the new dramas with many agonising over which one to watch, because they all seem so interesting and exciting, not to mention each drama has actors who hold considerable fan bases.
