“Hyde, Jekyll, Me” drops first teaser

Hyun Bin (Secret Garden) and Han Ji Min’s (Rooftop Prince) upcoming split personality drama “Hyde, Jekyll, Me” has revealed its first teaser trailer, the drama is set to air after Lee Jong Suk and Park Shin Hye’s Wed – Thurs drama “Pinocchio” on SBS. The drama marks Hyun Bin’s return to the small screen after five years (his last drama was the Freaky Friday-esque “Secret Garden” with Ha Ji Won in 2010) with two of those years spent in the Korean Marines as part of his mandatory military service, as well as Han Ji Min’s return after three years (she was last seen in time travelling drama “Rooftop Prince” with JYJ’s Yoochun in 2012).

Hyde, Jekyll, Me is the second project that Hyun Bin and Han Ji Min have worked on together, in April of last year (that feels really weird to say considering last year was only like last week) Hyun Bin and Han Ji Min starred in the saguek film “The Fatal Encounter“. The film enters around the 24 hours leading up to a real life assassination attempt on King Jeonjo (who is considered to be one of the most successful rulers of Joseon) during his first year as king in 1777. Hyun Bin starred as the titular character King Jeonjo whilst Han Ji Min played his political rival Queen Jeongsun who was the dowager queen and young consort of Jeonjo’s late grandfather King Yeonjo.

Their upcoming drama “Hyde, Jekyll, Me” will revolve around Hyun Bin’s two personalities, one cold and ruthless the other kind and gentle, who runs an amusement park,Han Ji Min will play the circus master that is caught between the two. This drama is also an adaptation of Lee Choong-ho’s webtoon Dr. Jekyll Is Mr. Hyde  following the recent trend of webtoon to drama adaptations such as the highly popular Misaeng which was adapted from Yoon Tae Ho’s webtoon of the same name and shot lead, Im Si Wan of idol group ZE:A to stardom, garnering him a total of 10 endorsement deals since starring as Jang Geu Rae.

Gu Seo Jin (Hyun Bin) a third generation chaebol that runs an amusement park whom, due to an accident during his childhood, has split personalities, one kind and caring and the other ruthless and cold. Jang Ha Na (Han Ji Min) is the circus master who is struggling not to get her troupe axed from the amusement park due to low sales and sets out to get him to change his mind eventually falling in love with the two personalities of Seo Jin.

The short teaser shows Seo Jin (featuring a questionable hairstyle) taking a balloon from a little girl as he makes his way around the amusement park with his assistant, before declaring that balloons are now forbidden in the park and then looking over at a dancing balloon man and telling his assistant that dancing is now banned as well. We also see our heroine jump in front of his car saying that she wants to talk to him, he agrees and she moves to get on, only to have him tell his driver to drive off when she is clear of the front of the car. The short teaser ends with a caption that is presumably Ha Na’s saying, “Can’t they both mine?” and shows the two Seo Jin’s standing in front of the amusement park entrance with Jang Ha Na standing between them.

The drama co-stars Han Sang Jin (Birth of a Beauty) as Hyun Bin’s rival, Sung Joon (Discovery of Romance) as a hypnotherapist as well as Lee Deok-hwa(Hotel King), Lee Seung-joon (Misaeng), and Lee Won-geun (Secret Door) and is written by Kim Ji Woon of Alice in Cheongdam-dong, 49 Days PD Jo Young Kwang will be directing the drama.

Hyde, Jekyll, Me airs its first episode on the 21st of January on SBS.
