Choi Jin Hyuk’s agency Red Brick House announced on the 28th of February that the actor would be enlisting for his mandatory service at the end of this month (March 31st). The actor finally hit it big with the fusion saguek drama “Gu Family Book” in 2013, his role as Gu Wol Ryung captured fangirl hearts everywhere and since then he has starred in the star studded “The Heirs” which was then followed by TvN’s “Emergency Couple” where he starred opposite Running Man’s Song Ji Hyo, he then starred in MBC’s adaptation of the Taiwanese drama “Fated to Love You“. His final drama before his upcoming enlistment was the legal drama “Pride and Prejudice” in which he starred as a hot shot prosecutor opposite Baek Jin Hee from the drama “Triangle“.
Choi Jin Hyuk’s last official event was a fan meeting held in Seoul with 400 of his fans, the fan meeting was broken in to two parts. The first part consisted of a Q&A session where the actor answered various questions from his fans ranging from personal ones to ones about his drama’s and behind the scenes stories. The second part of the fan meeting saw the actor undergo pre-military training where he learnt about the different supplies, training exercises and military food with the help of his long time friend, comedian Park Kyung Lim. To end the event Choi Jin Hyuk sang Kim Gun Mo’s “Wrongful Meeting” and promised fans that he will work hard whilst he is in the military and to wait for his return.
Choi Jin Hyuk has actually been acting since 2006 when he went by his birth name Kim Tae Ho starring in dramas like “Pasta“, “My Daughter the Flower” and “Ms Panda and Mr Hedgehog” which also had Super Juniors Donghae. However he still remained pretty unknown so it’s a shame that he finally got his big break so close to when he had to enlist, his role in Gu Family Book ignited “Wol Ryung Fever” and his character became one of the favourites of the drama and due to overwhelming demand his character was brought back despite the fact that he was only supposed to be in the first few episodes.
Although the actor was notified in August last year that he was able to enlist in the promotional unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency he declined the option and will be serving active duty. I wish him all the best during his enlistment and hope to see him back in drama’s once he has finished serving (hopefully in a lead role where he can show off his new army improved physique ).
