EXO, BTS and VIXX top Twitter’s ‘Top Searched’ for the first half of the year

 On Tuesday the 7th of July, Twitter Korea revealed their Top 10 Most Searched Keywords for the first half of 2015. The top ranking searches were divided by categories such as “Society“, “Music” and “TV/Film” with Twitter Korea listing the Top 10 for each category. 
 Topping the “Society” category we have last year’s tragic Sewol Ferry disaster (April 16 2014) which resulted in the deaths of more than 300 passengers with many being school students, the recent MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) outbreak that has struck Korea since May 2015 and has resulted in 34 deaths so far and the suicide of Keangnam Enterprise chairman Sung Wan Jong whom admitted to receiving bribes from two former Chief Secretaries of the Blue House (the office and residence of the Korean President) during an investigation before hanging himself on the 9th of April 2015.

In the ‘Society’ category:

Topping the “Music” category we have Big Hit’s seven member hip hop group BTS who made a comeback this year with their mini album titled “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 1” their title song “I Need U” garnered them five music show awards, the boys are currently promoting their follow up single “Dope” and will also be performing in Sydney this Friday the 10th of July as part of their, “BTS Live Trilogy: Episode II. The Red Bullet” tour. Coming in second are VIXX whom released their latest EP “Boys Record” comprising of two self composed songs (Leo and Ravi participated in the lyrics and composition of “On a Cold Night” and Ravi composed and wrote the lyrics for his solo track wit Hyuk “Memories“), their title song “Love Equation” (a remake of R.ef’s “Farewell Formula“) also received an “all kill” on all the music shows winning them eight awards. Finally coming in at third are SM super group EXO, the boys released their second studio album “EXODUS” in March with the title song “Call Me Baby” winning five triple crowns and amounting to eighteen music show wins in total, the song is currently the second most awarded song in history (Call Me Baby is two wins behind PSY’s massive hit “Gangnam Style”). Their second single “Love Me Right“off the repackaged version of EXODUS (which includes self composed song “Promise” that members Lay, Chen and Chanyeol took part in creating) has achieved eleven wins in total with two triple crowns, the EXO boys are also currently participating in their second solo tour titled “EXO From. EXOPLANET #2 – The EXO’luXion”.

Finally in the “TV/Film” category we have British action/comedy film “Kingsman: The Secret Service” topping the list, the film was helmed by “X-Men: First Class” director Matthew Vaughn and starred Colin Firth (“The King’s Speech” and “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy“). Coming in second is the latest instalment of the popular “School” series titled, “Who Are You – School 2015” the KBS drama starred Kim So Hyun (The Moon That Embraces the Sun) as twins Lee Eun Bi and Go Eun Byul as well as BTOB’s Yook Sungjae and rookie actor Nam Joo Hyuk. Finally coming in at third we have coming of age film “Twenty” starring Kim Woo Bin (The Heirs), Kang Ha Neul (Misaeng) and 2PM’s Lee Junho as high school best friends, the film follows the three boys adventures as twenty year olds and is a film about friendships, youth and coming of age, the film topped its opening weekend in Korea and has so far grossed about $21 million USD.
