Popular MBC singing competition show Masked Singer (or King of Mask Singer) has been garnering considerable attention of late from the Korean public for revealing the hidden singing abilities of many idol vocalists who have appeared on the show. The competitors are given elaborate masks to conceal their identity, thereby eliminating factors like popularity and public perception which may influence audience votes. In an interview yesterday, PD Min Chul Ki was asked to name the Top 7 male and female idols with the best vocal skills, which he listed as follows (in no particular order):
Brand new individual and group teaser photos have been released on the heels of official confirmation that EXO’s repackaged version of their 2nd full-length album EXODUS, titled Love Me Right, will be released on June 3rd.
The title track “Love Me Right” is described as a bright summer track and will be performed for the first time next week on the group’s comeback stage on Mnet M!Countdown on June 4th. In the meantime, EXO will be continuing their EXO’luXion tour in Shanghai this weekend on May 30-31st.
After much wait K-pop group EXO is finally making their comeback, the new album titled “EXODUS” was released on the 30th of March and comes in two versions silver (EXO-M) and gold (EXO-K) and 20 different covers featuring individual images of the boys for each version. The title track “Call Me Baby” was pre-released on the 27th and achieved an all-kill within 3 hours of its release. The album is the boys first as 10 after the departure of Kris and Luhan last year, and has been emphasised as the start of a new era for the boys. Prior to the release of the album SM released individual teaser trailers of the boys on their official Youtube which they titled “Pathcode” that had fans trying to guess which member’s trailer would be released next based on a clue from the official Pathcode twitter account and hidden clues within the trailers themselves. Each of the trailers were released at different times and were filmed in different parts of the world, the trailers also signalled a comeback for the individual powers we saw when the introduction teasers came out in 2012 reiterating the “new era” that SM are going for. SM also released a special song titled “First Love” on the official Pathcode site as a gift to fans who had solved all the riddles, the song was only available for 10 hours and is not included on the album, “Promise” which was self composed by Lay with lyrics by Chen and Chanyeol as a gift to fans and performed at the boys’s EXO’Luxion concert is also not included on the album, but hopefully both songs will be included in the repackaged.
The album features songs composed by The Underdogs who worked on the Pitch Perfect Soundtrack, Teddy Riley who produced “What Is Love” which was one of the songs featured in the introduction teasers for the boys back in 2012, Kenzie who’s composed songs for all of SM’s groups and also features a song composed by SM labelmate Jonghyun. Forbes Korea released their “Power Celebrity 40” list for the year 2014 at the end of last month, surprisingly SM’s super group EXO came in at first place despite the scandals that rocked the group throughout last year (with two members filing lawsuits and one member caught in the midst of a date with a label member), the group rose four places to take the number one spot, whilst last years #1 SNSD dropped down to ninth. There are two steps involved in determining the Top 40, the first step involves finding the Top 100 most searched people of the year based on data provided by Nate, the second step involves measuring that celebrity’s:
1. Sales – Estimated based on appearance fees, CF guarantees, album sales, etc. + reported overseas income
2. Media Exposure – Number of appearances in the top 3 newspapers, magazine covers
3. Television Exposure – CF model ranking and appearances on talk shows and variety shows
4. Ratings – For MC’s and actors this is based on TV ratings, for movie actors it is the total audience number, Gaon digital and physical sales rankings for singers and competition results for athletes
The final list is the 40 celebrities with the highest average ranking across all four categories.

*Authors Note – For those of you looking for the recent Seoul Music Awards post which were held on the 14th of January 2015, you can find that here
The 24th Sports Seoul “Seoul Music Awards” was held at the Seoul Olympic Gymnastics Arena on the 22nd of January and was hosted by Jun Hyun Moon, SISTAR’s Soyou and Super Junior’s Leeteuk. Winners are chosen based on mobile votes (20%), Sports Seoul’s popularity poll (10%), digital downloads and album sales (40%) and judges scores (30%) meaning that even if an artist is leading the mobile vote and popularity poll another artist might be able to win based on the remaining undisclosed 70%. GOT7 won “Best New Artist” adding to their growing list of awards (they also won the same award for last week’s Golden Disk Awards and Youku Night Awards), in a surprising twist Soyou x Junggigo’s “Some” won “Record of the Year” instead of Taeyang’s “Eyes, Nose, Lips” and B2ST took home “Album of the Year” with their album “Time” instead of EXO for their third mini album “Overdose” (Taeyang and EXO have won the award in those categories for both the MAMA’s and Golden Disk which are significantly larger than the Seoul Music Awards), despite not winning “Album of the Year” EXO ended up getting the biggest award of the night which is the “Daesang” award. Hosted by Jun Hyun Moon, SISTAR’s Soyou and Super Junior’s Leeteuk the 24th Sports Seoul “Seoul Music Awards” was held at the Seoul Olympic Gymnastics Arena on the 22nd of January. To be eligible to be in the running for an award the artist must have released an album in the past year, winners are then chosen based on mobile votes (20%), Sports Seoul’s popularity poll (10%), digital downloads and album sales (40%) and judges scores (30%) (so even if an artist appears to be leading the poll based on fan votes, this does not necessarily mean that they will win if they have low sales/downloads or do not get a high judging score).
